Manchester City midfielder James Milner has declared that his side are prepared to prove their mettle in the Champions League this season.

The Premier League champions, who are in Group E of the competition, will begin their European adventure with an away fixture against Bayern Munich tomorrow.

Manchester City reached the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the first time last season, following two back-to-back exits from the group stage.

And Milner, who feels the Citizens have a squad to go further this term, insisted that his side are looking forward on the European front after their recent domestic successes.

"I think year on year we should get better and we will keep improving the more experience we have as a group in the Champions League”, the England international told UEFA’s official site.

“It is a lot of games that we have played now, a lot that we have learnt over the years that we have been in it.

"So I think having won the Premier League a couple of times, and been fortunate enough to win every trophy domestically, we now want to prove ourselves on the European stage.

“And I believe we have a good enough team to do that."

Apart from German champions Bayern Munich, Manchester City have been joined by Roma and CSKA Moscow in one of the toughest groups of this season’s Champions League.
