Ron Vlaar has played down speculation about his future and said that he is happy at Aston Villa.

The defender played a crucial role in the Netherlands finishing third in the World Cup and speculation was rife in the summer that the Dutchman was ready to leave Aston Villa.

The former Feyenoord centre-back has only one year left on his contract with Aston Villa and he is yet to sign an extension.

He was heavily linked with a move to Italy during the last transfer window and both Juventus and Lazio were interested. In England, Vlaar was linked with Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.

However, the trail went cold during the business end of the window and Vlaar remained at Villa Park.
