Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic is set to undergo surgery on his nose, which was broken during yesterday's Champions League clash against Olympiacos.

The Croatian international was left with a bleeding nose after a collision with Patjim Kasami in the very early stages of the match.

However, he played through the pain barrier until the 90th minute and even contributed with a goal in the 38th minute.

Now that the injury is confirmed, the 28-year-old is set to be out for as long as two weeks, which will certainly mean that he will miss his team's next league match against Celta Vigo.

He is also a doubt for Atletico Madrid's second Champions League group stage game against Juventus on 1st October.

Mandzukic moved to Spain from German side Bayern Munich this summer, having signed a four-year contract with the Atleti. He has played a total of six matches for his new side, with the goal against Olympiacos being his third since joining.

The result from yesterday was not pleasing for last year's finalists, after they lost 3-2 to Olympiacos in Greece and thus have put themselves under pressure from the very outset of the Champions League.
