Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho believes that Bayern Munich are going to be the team that they will have to beat if they are to finish as group toppers in the Champions League.

The Citizens have been drawn against the Bavarians along with Italian outfit AS Roma and Russian side CSKA Moscow in Group E and are expected to face stiff competition in order to progress from the group.

However, having already beaten Bayern Munich once away from home last year, Fernandinho is hopeful that his team will be able to repeat those heroics yet again this year.

And that he believes could trigger the start of a successful Champions League campaign for his team.

"This is a difficult group for us, but Bayern are the team we have to beat”, Fernandinho told his club's official site.

"The other teams we must play are tough, but if we take three points from our first game I think we will go on and win the group.

"That’s something we haven’t done before and it is really important because it means you don’t face another group winner in the next phase.

"Every team you face in the Champions League is difficult because they all give 100% to try and beat you no matter who you are playing, but we have learned lessons from our previous efforts and we want to finish top this time.”
