Manchester United defender Jonny Evans believes Luke Shaw has the potential to become the best left-back in the world in the future.

Manchester United forked out a princely £27m to sign the 19-year-old full-back from Southampton this summer.

He missed the start of the season due to a hamstring injury and is still waiting to make his debut for the Red Devils.

Evans, the most experienced defender in the current Manchester United squad, has been impressed by the new defensive additions at the club.

The Northern Irishman believes that Marcos Rojo is a wonderful player to have in the squad because of his defensive versatility.

"Looking at our new defenders, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw, I've been really impressed", he said in the latest United Review matchday programme.

"I watched Marcos at the World Cup and thought he was excellent for Argentina whether he played at left-back or left wing-back, and he can play centre-back too.”

However, the 26-year-old reserved special praise for Shaw and claimed that the former Saints man has the potential to become the best in the world in his position in the near future.

"I had the chance to work with Luke in pre-season and there is no doubt he is going to be the best left-back in the world."

The 19-year-old is a full England international and made 67 top flight appearances for Southampton before joining Manchester United this summer.
