Tottenham Hotspur new boy Federico Fazio has urged his team to make a strong start to the Europa League campaign in order to fight for silverware.

The Lilywhites take on Serbian outfit Partizan Belgrade in what could be Fazio's first match for his new side on the European stage.

Though excited about the encounter, the 27-year-old insists that their first match away from home is not going to be easy by any means.

However, he also believes that in order to fight for silverware this season, his team will have to win such away matches and start strongly in all the tough games in the tournament.

“It’s difficult but if we want to win this competition we need to compete in all the matches", Fazio told his club's official site.

"We need to start strongly in a difficult game in Partizan and try to get the three points.

“The final is in May but we must take it match-by-match and think about the next game. That’s against Partizan and we need to win."

Fazio also took time to speak about the importance of the Europa League, which could pave their way towards participation in the Champions League.

“It’s a great competition and this season, if we win, it takes us straight through to the Champions League.

“The tournament is great because you can play in other countries and then, in the knockout stage, it’s good to play against teams from the Champions League – some very good teams.

“We need to enjoy it as we have a good team that wants to do well in this competition.”
