Brendan Rodgers has dismissed suggestions by Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher that Steven Gerrard should be switched from his position of deep-lying playmaker.

The Liverpool manager moved Gerrard into the role last term, sparking a resurgence in the midfielder's form, as he helped power a Premier League title challenge for the Reds.

However, when Neville, a former Manchester United defender, and Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, assessed the Reds' 1-0 defeat home to Aston Villa last weekend, they pondered a different role for Gerrard.

It was suggested that Gerrard could be shifted to operate as a number 10 or even, on occasion, pushed wide.

But Rodgers has refused to be swayed and batted off the comments as just the latest in a long line of advice he regularly receives through the media.

"I keep getting told in the papers how to play and how to work and it's the same on the TV.

"We'll always find different ways to win games", Rodgers added.

Liverpool will aim to bounce back from their defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League this coming weekend when they visit West Ham at Upton Park. In midweek Champions League action the Reds edged out Ludogorets Razgrad 2-1.
