Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has admitted that it hasn't been an easy week for him amidst speculation about being sacked.

The under-fire manager has managed to retain club owner Mike Ashley's support, in spite of a large section of the club's fans having lost faith in the 53-year-old.

The Magpies haven't had a particularly impressive start to their domestic season having lost two and drawn two of their Premier League fixtures.

The disappointing start has meant that Pardew's side have currently hit rock bottom with two points from four matches, and lost 4-0 at Southampton last weekend.

"It has not been an easy week", Pardew was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I've spoken to the group about it and if we go behind in games we have to show a better spirit.

"I had a long conversation with Mike Ashley on Sunday.

"We both agreed to focus on this Saturday and try to get a win."

Newcastle United take on Hull City at St. James' Park this weekend followed by a match against Crystal Palace the following week, and the former Southampton boss will desperately hope that the two matches witness a turnaround for the Magpies.
