Manchester United Under-21 midfielder Josh Harrop is eager to become the next local boy to graduate through to the first team at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have come under fire this season from club old-timers for allegedly losing faith in youth and going for the big stars in the transfer market.

Louis van Gaal took the controversial decision to sell Manchester United academy graduate and local boy Danny Welbeck to Arsenal after he secured Radamel Falcao on transfer deadline day, while Tom Cleverley was shipped to Aston Villa on loan.

However, the 18-year-old midfielder is hoping to make it to the first team at Manchester United.

Harrop, who belongs to a family of Manchester United supporters, has been at the club since he was seven and he believes there is no reason why he cannot make the grade at Old Trafford if he keeps developing in the next few years.

“[I want to] just to keep impressing and see how far I can go”, Harrop told Inside United.

“Hopefully, I can play in the Manchester United first team one day. I have been here since I was seven so I’ve been at the club a long time. I want to keep progressing, grow physically and try to make the first team.

“I’m a local lad, from Stockport, so it’s great to be playing for United. Ever since I was born, I’ve been a fan as all my family are United supporters.”

Manchester United have had a graduate from their youth system in every single match day squad since 30th October, 1937.
