Roma have hit out at suggestions they are ready to sell midfielder Kevin Strootman for €75m in the January transfer window, with Manchester United at the front of the queue for the Dutchman.

Strootman suffered a serious knee injury in March this year and as a result missed the last part of the Serie A season along with the summer's World Cup in Brazil.

He has still not returned to action, but that has not stopped Manchester United being linked with moving to buy him in January; Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is a firm fan of the former PSV Eindhoven man.

But Roma are longing for Strootman's return and are not planning to offload him, despite reports they have placed a €75m asking price on his head.

"We can't wait until Kevin is back on the pitch", Giallorossi general manager Mauro Baldissoni told Sky Italia.

"We miss him a lot, but he is getting closer to his return.

"We are proud that Kevin is part of our squad and he is not for sale."

Roma paid around €20m to snap up Strootman from PSV Eindhoven last summer, winning the race for his signature despite the midfielder being linked with Manchester United also at that time.
