Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted that it was both “special” and “weird” for him to score against his former club Chelsea yesterday.

The ex-England international, who is currently on loan with the English champions, joined New York City FC from Chelsea in the summer.

Lampard came off the bench when his side were a man and a goal down at the Etihad Stadium and scored the equaliser to share the spoils.

And the midfielder, who spent 13 trophy laden seasons at Stamford Bridge, explained that he was “caught in the middle” after helping Manchester City to salvage a draw.

However, Lampard was quick to laud both the sets of supporters and added that a draw was an ideal result from his perspective.

"The reception I got when I came on was amazing, I can't speak highly enough of the fans", he told the BBC.

"I came here to do a job and it was a special and weird day. It was difficult day for me at the end because what do you do? You're caught in the middle.

"What was a win for me today? Maybe a draw and keeping the Premier League close and a reception from both sets of fans that I won't forget."
