Arsenal legend Robert Pires has revealed Arsene Wenger advised him to dust off his boots and go and play in the Indian Super League.

The former Gunners winger has signed a deal to represent FC Goa in the first edition of the new tournament and will play under Brazil legend Zico.



Pires has been training with Arsenal in a bid to keep fit and had the opportunity to run the Indian Super League offer past Wenger, who was enthusiastic about him taking up the challenge.

Asked at a press event in Mumbai if he had spoken to Wenger, Pires replied: "Yes. Of course.

 


"He is important to me.

"When I explained the concept to him he said, 'Robert, go. If you are confident to play don’t wait. You need to go.' I said. 'Thank you boss.'"

Pires joins a number of household names in taking part in the Indian Super League.

Also signed up for the league are Liverpool legend Luis Garcia, Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero, former France hitman David Trezeguet and ex-England goalkeeper David James.
