Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is under pressure at Napoli after the club took just three points from their opening three Serie A games.

Last term Benitez's men did not lose until the eighth matchday, but they have lost their last two Serie A games in a row after starting the campaign by beating Genoa 2-1.

The Spanish tactician has been summoned by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to explain the club's poor start, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

De Laurentiis is desperate for Napoli to beat Palermo tomorrow, with the pressure set to build further on Benitez if the Azzurri fail to do so.

Last season's Coppa Italia winners have already suffered one blow this season, being knocked out of the Champions League in the qualifying rounds.

That has seen Napoli drop into the Europa League, a competition Benitez has won twice, once with Valencia and once with Chelsea.

Benitez guided Napoli to third in Serie A last term, despite the club losing star striker Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
