Luis Alberto admits he is unsure whether he will return to Liverpool following his season-long loan at Malaga, with a longer stay possible.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers splashed out around £7m to sign Alberto from Sevilla last term, following the winger spending a season on loan with Barcelona's B team.

However, the Spaniard failed to get to grips with English football and was sent back to his homeland this summer to serve a loan stint with Malaga.

He is set to lock horns with former club Barcelona tomorrow evening in La Liga action and is under no illusions that a tough game awaits against Luis Enrique's men, who have so far won all four of their opening league fixtures.

"I have nice memories, but I hope to give them a bad game and that we can get something", he told the club's site.

"Barcelona have stepped up a gear this season with the arrival of Luis Enrique. We need to do our job well and I'm sure the coach is preparing for a difficult match."

Alberto is scheduled to spend the season with Malaga, but admits he could well be at the club for longer, with it being impossible for him to take a return to Liverpool next summer for granted.

"I'm going to do my best and give everything I've got, and who knows, I might be here for longer than a year", he added.
