Arjen Robben has insisted that it was important for Bayer Munich to lay down an early season marker against SC Paderborn last night.

A brace from Mario Gotze and two more goals from Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller helped Bayern Munich to register a comfortable 4-0 win over Paderborn in the Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena.

After three wins and two draws, the German champions are now at the top of Bundesliga on 11 points.

Robben believes that the win was crucial as the Bavarians needed to make a statement early in the season and a big win helps.

The Dutchman explained that Paderborn were unable to handle the early Bayern Munich surge which led to two early goals.

“It was important to win today and lay down a marker”, Robben told the club’s official site.

“We were simply the better team. They had problems closing us down at the start. We made the most of it and took an early 2-0 lead.

“That’s our first win by a big margin, and we need to keep it up.”

The German champions next take on 1.FC Koln on Saturday at the Rhein Energie Stadion.
