Moldova have named Alexandr Curteian as their new coach, following the dismissal of Ion Caras.

Caras found himself out of a job earlier today after the Moldovan Football Association deemed a run of four defeats in seven friendly games not good enough, while the country lost their Euro 2016 qualifier against Montenegro 2-0 earlier this month.

Now Moldova have turned to the country's Under-21 coach, Curteian.

The 40-year-old tactician turned out as a player for local side Zimbru Chisinau and bagged five domestic titles.

He also had spells as a player with Widzew Lodz in Poland, Zenit in Russia and Hamburg in Germany.

Curteian's first game in charge of Moldova will come next month when Moldova host Austria on 9th October, while that is quickly followed by a trip to St. Petersburg to play Russia three days' later.
