FIFA agent Francois Gallardo has claimed that former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who is now a director at the Red Devils, has spoken to Cristiano Ronaldo about returning to Old Trafford.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admitted recently that if signing Ronaldo was possible, he would look to complete the deal.

Any talk of Ronaldo heading back to Manchester United has been rubbished by Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, but Gallardo claims Ferguson is embarking on a charm offensive to persuade the Portuguese to return to his former club.

Gallardo told French magazine Le 10 Sport: "Cristiano Ronaldo received a call from Ferguson on Wednesday about a return to United."

The agent also believes that Ronaldo's representative, super agent Jorge Mendes, will prove a key player in any move back to Old Trafford for Ronaldo.

"He is really happy in Madrid, but Jorge Mendes has a large role in this soap opera", Gallardo added.

Ronaldo has started the season in sublime form for Real Madrid, hitting an impressive ten goals in five La Liga games this term.
