Roberto Mancini believes Roma can approach tomorrow's Champions League clash against Manchester City with confidence, forgetting all about the likelihood of another drubbing in Manchester.

The Giallorossi were humiliated in 2007, having reached the Champions League quarter-finals, when Manchester United ran riot to record a 7-1 victory over the Italian side at Old Trafford.

Roma head back to Manchester this week, but to face Manchester City in a Champions League group stage game. And former Manchester City manager Mancini feels the Citizens are nothing like the Red Devils were in 2007.

"Roma play football, as we used to say", he explained to Gazzetta dello Sport.

"City are not the United of several years ago. And this could go in Roma's favour", he added.

Mancini believes that Roma must look to counter attack with pace against Manchester City, making sure that when opportunities do come their way they are quickly seized.

"The key is to counter quickly and seize any chances City might offer. Roma need to be vigilant in defence, keep focus for the full 90 minutes and be clinical in attack", the Italian said.

"A full-strength Roma can beat City, but the absences of [Daniele] De Rossi, [Leandro] Castan and [Davide] Astori could make them more vulnerable."
