Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has lauded Mario Balotelli’s work-rate during his side’s 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday.

The striker, who joined the Reds from AC Milan in the summer for £16m, regularly tracked back at Anfield to help his side’s midfield in the Merseyside derby.

The Italian also had a guilt-edged chance to double Liverpool’s advantage when he shot wide from close range just after Steven Gerrard has given his side the lead.

However Henderson, who was pleased with Balotelli’s overall display against the Toffees, also praised the efforts of the rest of his team-mates.

"I thought Mario worked back very well. He nicked back some balls in midfield and we counter-attacked from there. It was very good from Mario”, the vice-captain was quoted as saying by Liverpool’s official site.

"He had a good chance late on and I'm not sure if their 'keeper got a touch. It was a good performance from all of us. Now we need to keep it going."

Liverpool, who have managed to pick just a single point from their last three Premier League outings, are currently 13th in the table with just seven points from six games.

Brendan Rodgers' side will next take on FC Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday.
