Liverpool legend John Aldridge is of the opinion that Adam Lallana can “develop into a cracking signing for the club.”

The England international, who joined the Reds from Southampton in the summer, had to wait a while to make his competitive Liverpool debut after picking up an injury in pre-season.

However, Lallana looked impressive in the 1-1 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby at the weekend.

And Aldridge, who has high hopes for the midfielder, feels the 26-year-old’s Liverpool career is up and running, following a good derby display at Anfield.

"There's nothing like a derby to get a player's Liverpool career up and running, and I felt Adam Lallana did exactly that on Saturday", Aldridge was quoted as saying by Liverpool’s official site.

"He will have been as frustrated as anyone at having to wait to make his debut, but I think he has looked very promising over the last few weeks.

"Against Everton, he was everywhere, working hard, looking to play forward and create, and showing a lot of quality on the ball.

"We know he is a good player. And as he gets fitter and more in tune with his teammates, I think he will develop into a cracking signing for the club."

Lallana, who scored nine league goals for Southampton last term, is yet to find the back of the back for his new employers in five appearances in all competitions.
