Roma forward Gervinho has accused Arsene Wenger of not showing any confidence in his talents during his spell at Arsenal.

Wenger swooped to snap up the Ivory Coast international from French club Lille in 2011, but he soon slipped out of the starting eleven after struggling to convince the Arsenal boss of his qualities.

Gervinho, who Wenger sold to Roma last summer for €8m, failed to score more than five Premier League goals in either of the seasons he plied his trade at the Emirates Stadium.

He bagged nine in Serie A last term however as Roma finished as runners-up and was a regular fixture for coach Rudi Garcia.

Gervinho believes Roma reaped the rewards for showing confidence in his abilities, unlike Arsenal.

"I feel like a new player in Italy", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"It is very hard to have confidence in yourself when the coach does not have confidence in you – and it's clear at Arsenal that confidence was not shown in me", the Ivorian added.

Gervinho will be aiming to show his qualities on English soil this evening when Roma lock horns with Manchester City in the Champions League.
