Paris Saint-Germain defender Maxwell wants his side to up their game for their Champions League clash against Barcelona tonight.

The French champions, who are currently fourth in Ligue 1 with 14 points from eight games, have won one and drawn four of their last five matches in all competitions.

And Maxwell feels PSG’s slow start to the season is due to the involvement of a number of players from the club in the World Cup in Brazil.

However, the left-back, who spent three seasons with Barcelona between 2009 and 2012, has urged his side to return to form against the Catalan giants at the Parc des Princes.

“I think our relatively slow start to the season is, in part, due to the fact so many of us played at the World Cup”, Maxwell told UEFA’s official site.

“But we're working hard with the staff to catch up and we hope tomorrow [Tuesday] we can prove we're back.”

Maxwell, who has a further two years left on his current contract with PSG, has thus far made 101 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring six times.
