Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has told England boss Roy Hodgson that there is little chance of striker Daniel Sturridge being fit enough to play in the Three Lions' upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Sturridge picked up a thigh injury during the last international break with England and as a result has been sidelined for Liverpool, much to Rodgers' annoyance.

He was left out of the Reds' squad to play Basel in the Champions League this evening and though Rodgers may hand him some role in the weekend Premier League game against West Brom, he warned England that does not mean he is fit for international duty.

"He won't be fit to play for England whether he's available for the weekend or not", Rodgers was quoted as saying by ITV.

"I don't think he's fit to play for England. We're hoping he can develop over the next 48 hours to be in a position to train with the team on Thursday and maybe be available for the squad on Saturday.

"But if we're talking about players being picked for international duty then they need to be fit and play and Daniel certainly won't be fit."
