Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says he has not yet spoken to owner Mike Ashley following the Magpies' 1-0 defeat at Stoke City on Monday evening.

Ashley had joked before the match that defeat could have Pardew collecting his P45. However, the manager is still in his post and is expected to lead Newcastle into their weekend match against Swansea City.

Pardew did say post the Stoke defeat that he expected to talk to Ashley, but he claims there have been no discussions between the two and his focus remains on preparing the side to face Swansea.

"No, no [I haven’t spoken to Ashley]. We focused very much this week on the mental side of the game, responses on the pitch and how you respond to the media, because you won't leave us alone at the moment", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We haven't got the experience of the side that got relegated, before my time, and it's important we start gathering points quickly to make sure we are fighting at the right end of the table", he added.

The former Charlton boss has spoken to the club's CEO though, to discuss any ways that could help the side reach their optimum level.

"There's not much to say we need to get a win, no matter what I say to some reasonable people it means nothing, we need to win. I spoke to the chief executive and we discussed ways of trying to help the team and getting the team playing to its capacity."

Newcastle currently sit second bottom in the Premier League table with just three points from six games so far.
