Leeds United striker Steve Morison is hoping to "shut a few people up" with his performances at Elland Road this term and has lifted the lid on why he moved to Millwall on loan last season.

The 31-year-old joined the Whites in the 2013 January transfer window from Norwich City, but struggled with fitness and managed just three goals in 16 appearances for the Yorkshire giants.

The former Norwich City man spent last season on loan with Millwall after being declared surplus to requirements at Elland Road. However, he returned to the club this summer for a fresh start.

And Morison feels he has wound back the clock two years on his fitness and is now ready to make an impact and answer his critics head on. The striker also rubbished talk he has been looking to leave Leeds.

"Everyone has their own opinion at the end of the day and I seem to have been tarnished with this tag of someone who doesn't want to be here. I don't know where that's come from and wherever it has come from…I've been linked to go on loan to this place or leave and go to this place. It's not the case, I haven't spoken to anyone, I haven't looked to leave and I'm not looking to leave", Morison explained to LUTV.

"I've got another year after this year and I want to be here and to be successful.

"At the end of the day I'm a football player. I joined here 18 months ago now, which you wouldn't believe because it feels like I've only just turned up. It was horrendous for the 13 games I played. I should have taken myself out of the limelight and got myself fit, and I didn't and I made a bad decision and to be fair it's hindered me ever since.

"I had a very average season last year at Millwall. Ian Holloway would tell you, I was told not to train until Thursday and to train Friday and play Saturday just because I couldn't get myself fit", he continued.

"I spent the summer getting myself right, came back and to be fair I felt I was firing on all cylinders in pre-season, thought I was doing really well. I got the setback. I'm back now and I feel like I'm back where I was two years ago. I'm ready and it'll be nice to shut a few people up."

Morison also revealed the events surrounding his departure from Leeds last summer to join Millwall and spoke of his delight at the chance to return to Elland Road this year in an effort to truly make his mark.

"Last season….whatever stories people are [believing], whatever they want to believe, and people might say I'm making stuff up, but the harsh reality of it was I walked through the door first day of pre-season, I think 27th June, did the bleep test, did all my relevant tests and Brian McDermott pulled me into his office and said 'I don't want you at the football club, I want to bring in Noel Hunt and you can leave'. So, he said 'you can stay if you want' and I said 'I can't really stay if you don't want me here', so I left.

"After a little while I got asked if I wanted to go back to Leeds and my answer was if Brian McDermott was there I don't think so because he didn't want me there. So when he left I thought that's good because it's a great opportunity for me to go back there and show what I can do."

Morison was thrown on for ten minutes in Leeds' 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road today.
