Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is ready to offer €16m to FC Porto for Dutch international defender Bruno Martins Indi in January.

Manchester United’s defence has been a cause of concern for Van Gaal this season. He has been forced to play young and inexperienced defenders such as Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair due to injuries to senior defenders.

And so the Dutchman is ready to dip into the market in January to strengthen his defensive options and he is again looking to bring in compatriot, in the same way as he swooped for Daley Blind, to Old Trafford in the winter transfer window.

FC Porto paid €8m to Feyenoord to sign Martins Indi in the summer, but Van Gaal is ready to offer the Portuguese a chance to double their money in January, according to Portuguese sports daily A Bola.

Martins Indi was one of the crucial cogs of Van Gaal’s Dutch national team that finished third in the World Cup in Brazil and the Dutchman is keen to reunite with the defender at Old Trafford.

Even though the Red Devils are offering double the money that FC Porto forked out for the defender, it remains to be seen whether they are willing to part with Martins Indi after only six months.

The 22-year-old has 25 caps for the Netherlands and has already clocked up ten appearances for FC Porto this season.
