Celtic defender Adam Matthews has explained that he is confident about his side bagging the full three points against FC Astra in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Hoops, who thrashed Ross County 5-0 in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend, are currently joint-top of Group D of the continental competition with four points from two games.

Celtic started their Europa League campaign with a 2-2 draw with Salzburg in mid September before edging out Dinamo Zagreb 1-0 earlier in the month.

And Matthews, who feels Celtic will be in pole position to qualify to the knockout round if they beat Astra, further revealed that his side are looking to go far in the Europa League.

“I’m confident we can win the game and if we can get another three points and get to seven, we will have a really good chance of qualifying from the group, which is one of our main goals”, he told the club’s official site.

“We got the win against Zagreb, which was the main thing, and four points out of six is a pretty good start and I feel we have a good chance of winning the next two matches as well.

“Hopefully we can go as far as we can in the competition as it is a big tournament, with some big teams.”

Celtic, who have a game in hand in the Scottish Premiership, are presently fifth in the standings with 17 points from nine games, six behind leaders Hamilton Academical.
