Jose Mourinho has ruled out Diego Costa from Chelsea’s clash against NK Maribor tomorrow due to a long-standing hamstring problem, while refusing to confirm if he will be fit to face Manchester United next weekend.

Chelsea are leading their Champions League Group G and will host the Slovenian outfit tomorrow at Stamford Bridge.

But Mourinho confirmed that the Blues will be without their in-form striker Costa. The Spaniard was also out of action in Chelsea’s win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Costa has been struggling with a hamstring concern since the fag end of last season at Atletico Madrid. He also played for Spain in the international break, to which Mourinho said that he was in no position to stop the Spaniards from playing him.

The Chelsea manager is also not sure whether he will have Costa back for the trip to Old Trafford next weekend as the striker is not training.

“It is the same problem that he is having, but now an injury, not an almost injury”, Mourinho said in a press conference.

“And he is not training because he is not in conditions to do it.

“No, tomorrow he cannot play. Let’s see what happens for the next weekend [against Manchester United].”
