Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard believes it was clear to see that Cristiano Ronaldo was a world-class talent during his time at Manchester United.

Gerrard's Liverpool will attempt to stop Ronaldo tomorrow evening when Real Madrid provide the opposition for the Reds at Anfield in a Champions League clash.

Ronaldo turned out for Manchester United until 2009, at which time he headed to Real Madrid, where he has continued to shine and, for Gerrard, taken his game to the next level.

"When Cristiano played for Man United there were signs in there that he was a world-class player and I think the figures he produced for Man United were very good", Gerrard told a press conference.

"His game has gone to another level [since he joined Real Madrid] and he is arguably now the best player in the world."

Gerrard though is wary of Liverpool focusing solely on stopping Ronaldo tomorrow evening, believing Real Madrid have a number of other superb talents who can do his team damage.

"It's very important we don't go into this game just worried about Cristiano", he said.

"It would be very disrespectful to the rest of the Real Madrid team."
