Roberto Di Matteo wants to reunite with former Chelsea striker Fernando Torres at Schalke.

The Spaniard joined AC Milan from Chelsea on a two-year loan deal this summer and has already opened his account at his new club in Italy.

After spending three-and-a-half frustrating seasons at Chelsea, the 30-year-old decided to resurrect his career at Milan before the start of the new campaign.

But his former Chelsea manager wants to reunite with the striker in Germany at Schalke, according to German daily Bild.

Di Matteo was recently handed the reins at Schalke and he believes that Torres can still perform at the highest level in Germany.

However, the transfer hinges on the willingness of Milan to cancel their loan deal with Chelsea.

The Rossoneri worked hard to bring the World Cup winner to Italy this summer and it is highly unlikely that they will easily let the striker join another club before the loan deal expires in the summer of 2016.

Torres won the Champions League under the stewardship of the Italian manager at Chelsea.
