Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that goalkeeper David Ospina will be out of action for up to three months with a thigh injury.

The Colombian international, who joined the Gunners from Nice in the summer, has made just two appearances for his new employers.

Ospina had to come on during Arsenal’s 4-1 Champions League success over Galatasaray earlier in the month after Wojciech Szczesny was given his marching orders.

And Wenger feels bringing on the 26-year-old against the Turkish club without proper warm-up aggravated the injury, which the custodian initially picked up while representing his nation at the 2014 World Cup.

“It is exactly the same one [as from the World Cup]”, the Frenchman told the club’s official site.

“He had his first injury at Nice – it was a knee problem and he was a bit rushed back and did not use his leg, so his muscle became weaker.

“Then he got injured in the World Cup. After that, he came to us injured after the World Cup and it took him two months to play again.

“I had to bring him on against Galatasaray without a warm up and being prepared, so he had a recurrence of that injury.

“It means he is out for two to three months, now we have to be really careful because it is a recurrence of a thigh injury, which is very difficult. It is a long-term injury.”

With Szczesny suspended and Ospina out injured, the onus will be on youngster Emiliano Martinez to guard Arsenal’s goal in their away Champions League fixture against Anderlecht tonight.
