Arsene Wenger claims he always had hope that his side would eventually win against Anderlecht in the Champions League this evening.

Wenger saw his men fall behind in Brussels when Andy Najar hit the back of the net in the 67th minute, putting Anderlecht 1-0 up.

And as the clock ticked down in the second half it did seem as if the Gunners would suffer heartbreak and wave goodbye to any chances of topping their group.

But the worm turned for Wenger and goals from Kieran Gibbs (89th minute) and Lukas Podolski (91st minute) secured a vital 2-1 win for the Gunners.

"In the last five minutes in the Champions League the nerves play a part and we had to get into these five minutes without conceding a second goal", the Frenchman told the BBC.

"I had hope, it maybe didn't look like it, but it happened. It's a little bit of a gambling situation in these games and it worked.

"I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't create more chances than we did but Anderlecht played well."
