Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted Theo Walcott is fully fit and ready to feature for the Gunners, with game time being all he lacks.

Wenger sprung a surprise by naming Walcott amongst his substitutes for today's Premier League clash away at Sunderland, which was won for Arsenal through two goals from Alexis Sanchez.

Wenger did not bring Walcott on from the bench, choosing to use Hector Bellerin, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky as his substitutes.

But the Frenchman says he could have brought Walcott on if he had wished to, with the winger being perfectly fit to play.

"He’s fit. He lacks competition", he said via his club's site.

"Physically he lacks two things: contact in the Premier League and competition", Wenger continued.

"But fitness wise there is no problem at all."

All eyes will now be on whether Walcott features against Burnley next weekend.
