The agent of Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has denied having been contacted by either Arsenal or Liverpool, after the two Premier League giants were strongly linked with preparing January bids for the Argentine.

Arsenal publicly pursued Higuain in the summer of 2013, but saw themselves lose out to Napoli, who scooped up the striker from Real Madrid.

Their interest is not thought to have dimmed, while Liverpool, still seeking to replace the goals lost by the sale of Luis Suarez, are also monitoring proceedings.

But Nicolas Higuain, Gonzalo's brother and agent, insists the striker's future continues to be in southern Italy.

"Gonzalo has a contract with Napoli for five seasons, so he is an Azzurri player", Nicolas told Radio Crc.

"But I must stay that no representative of those two clubs has contacted me.

"Just before he arrived in Napoli I had contact with Arsenal", he added.

Higuain hit an impressive hat-trick for Napoli in Serie A yesterday as Rafael Benitez's men crushed Hellas Verona 6-2.
