John Guidetti called several of his former team-mates at Feyenoord over the summer to express his desperation to return to the club, according to Voetbal International.

The Sweden international was keen to leave Manchester City in search of first team football and had fond memories of a prior loan spell with Feyenoord in the 2011/12 campaign, when he scored 20 goals in 23 Eredivisie games.

Guidetti, who eventually ended up being loaned to Scottish champions Celtic, pushed hard to return to Feyenoord, and the Dutch club were weighing up moving to bring him back to De Kuip.

At first Manchester City priced Guidetti out of a return to Feyenoord, but later changed their stance and the striker called former team-mates to let them know Manchester City would allow him to go out on loan; but the deal failed to materialise.

Indeed, Feyenoord looked at taking Guidetti, however opted against it due to medical concerns, with the striker having been struck down by repeated injury troubles since leaving the Netherlands to return to Manchester City in 2012.

Guidetti has been a roaring success at Celtic and has so far bagged five goals in seven games.

His contract at Manchester City expires next summer and Celtic are working hard to keep him on a permanent basis.
