Jose Mourinho has called on Chelsea’s fringe players to up their game, following his side’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town in a League Cup fixture last night.

The Blues, who made a number of changes to their squad for the contest, struggled against the League Two outfit at Greenhous Meadow.

The Shrews scored through Andrew Mangan in the 77th minute to cancel out Didier Drogba’s opener before an own goal from Jermaine Grandison helped Chelsea to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

However Mourinho, whose side drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Sunday, was not pleased with the performances of his squad players against Shrewsbury Town.

“If players that played 90 minutes two days ago were fantastic, I expect people that have not been playing a lot to raise their level and create problems for me”, he explained to the club’s official site.
