Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has expressed his satisfaction at being able to enjoy an extended League Cup run with his team this season.

The Argentine contributed to the scoresheet as his team overpowered Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion with a 2-0 scoreline in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday.

The Argentine, who came on as a substitute in the second half, insists that once he was selected he knew that he was meant to play the same way as he did in the Europa League last week against Asteras Tripolis.

“When I came on I knew I had to try to play the same as last week in the Europa League", Lamela told his club's official site.

"We needed to attack but make sure we were tight in defence as well.

“Overall I am very happy because we won and we’ve continued in the cup.”

Lamela also thanked team-mate Roberto Soldado for his part in the build-up to his goal in the 54th minute of the match.

“Soldado passed it back to me for my goal – it was a very good assist.

“I am happy with the finish."

The Lilywhites will play Newcastle United next in the quarter-final of the competition on 16th December.
