Manuel Pellegrini has called on Manchester City to improve their recent defensive record, ahead of his side’s high-voltage clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Citizens, who lost 2-0 to Newcastle United in the League Cup last night, are now winless in their last three outings in all competitions and have also conceded two goals in each of those fixtures.

After their disappointing 2-2 draw with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League last week, Manchester City lost 2-1 to West Ham United in a Premier League fixture at the weekend before suffering their latest setback against the Magpies.

And Pellegrini, who admitted that his side are conceding “easy goals”, also wants the Eastlands outfit to be more decisive at the other end of the pitch.

“We had three similar games”, he explained to the club’s official site.

“We conceded two goals in each game and we had a lot of chances from which we could have scored.

“In one sense we are conceding easy goals through individual mistakes but we also we are not playing the way we normally do.”

Manchester City, who will welcome their fierce local rivals to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, are currently third in the Premier League table with 17 points from nine games.
