Benfica manager Jorge Jesus has questioned the credibility of the FIFA shortlist for the Coach of the Year award.

Football’s governing body released a shortlist of ten names nominated for the Coach of the Year award, with the ceremony to be held early next year.

Jesus masterminded Benfica’s domestic treble and lost the Europa League final on penalties, but his name is missing from the shortlisted nominees.

And the 60-year-old is annoyed that he doesn’t feature among the nominees and questioned the credibility of the list.

"Some weren't in the European finals, some weren't even domestic champions", Jesus told the BBC.

"I don't know the criteria used for this choice."

Jesus also added that some of the nominees didn’t win anything last season, but still feature in the list ahead of him which he finds conspicuous.

"If I did, I would have a better-informed opinion, but I have noticed that there are some on the list who achieved less than I did.

"I couldn't help looking to see what some of them did not win.

"If you ask whether I wanted to be there, then I would say yes, it would have been a recognition of my work."

Louis van Gaal, Jurgen Klinsmann, Alejandro Sabella and Jose Mourinho are the managers who feature on FIFA’s shortlist, but didn’t win anything last season.
