Chelsea and Manchester United are keen to sign Valencia midfielder and Portuguese international Andre Gomes.

Schooled in Benfica’s youth system, the 21-year-old midfielder joined Valencia this summer and has quickly drawn attention of some top clubs with eye catching performances at the Mestalla.

He also earned his first cap for Portugal last month in a 1-0 loss to Albania in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

Considered a bright prospect in Portuguese football, the midfielder’s progress hasn’t gone unnoticed and both Chelsea and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on him, according to Valencia-based daily Super Deporte.

It is unclear whether the English duo will make their move in January or next summer, but Valencia are desperate to hold on to Gomes.

The club are keen to ward off interest from the English giants and, due to the ownership of billionaire Peter Lim, may be able to keep hold of the former Benfica star.

Gomes has clocked up eight appearances this season and has already scored twice for Valencia.
