Neil Redfearn has revealed he has spoken to Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino about sending several players out on loan, gaining the Italian's full agreement.

Redfearn is set to be named the new Leeds United manager imminently, having come to an agreement with Cellino to step up from his academy post on a permanent basis.

The former midfielder believes that a number of players who are struggling for game time at Elland Road would be better served by heading out on loan in search of regular first team football.

And he admits he has spoken to Cellino about the plan, with it being one the Italian agrees with, as he seeks to keep his fringe players as match fit as possible.

"I mentioned it with Massimo and he agrees entirely", Redfearn explained to LUTV.

"It is a big squad with a lot of players. When it is the right time for some of the players to go out and get games somewhere else and go on loan [it will happen].

"We had a game behind closed doors the other day against Burnley. It was mainly a senior side and we won 3-0. A lot of players then played and that's great", he continued.

"I expect them to play and I had the conversation with them that they need to start playing, because training and playing in the odd Under-21 game is not enough for them.

"They need to be match fit and they need to be ready. They are paid as professional footballers. So if that process means that some of them will go out on loan, then some of them will go out on loan", Redfearn added.
