Rangers boss Ally McCoist has admitted that rivals Celtic are favourites to win the Scottish League Cup, but has also warned their opponents not to write them off.

Rangers are the only team from the Championship to be in the semi-final stage of the tournament and the manager believes that they are the outsiders.

But the 52-year-old also adds that when a team reaches the latter stages of a tournament they are meant to handle such tough situations.

“Celtic are favourites and surely everyone will accept that, or at least the vast majority of the country will", McCoist told his club's official site.

“That’s not mind games or anything. We are outsiders along with Aberdeen and Dundee United who, on their day, I think are two of the better sides in the country.

"Of course we’ll fancy our chances because we’ll be in a semi-final and we’ve proved this year we can handle the occasion having beaten a couple of Premiership teams."

McCoist also took time to talk about Celtic boss Ronny Deila's comments on their being weaker than Premiership outfits Aberdeen and Dundee United, the two others through to the semi-final stage.

“Ronnie is entitled to his opinion and maybe that makes sense because we’re the only team from out with the top division. I can understand his logic there.

“In most cases, you would think a team from a division lower along with three from one above would be the weaker side.

“I don’t think it’s unfair but I don’t necessarily agree with it but I can see where he is coming from."
