Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes that Darko Milanic was not given long enough at Elland Road, but stressed the final decision regarding coaching personnel rests with owner Massimo Cellino.

The controversial Italian sent Milanic packing after just 32 days at Leeds, despite the Slovenian having had no experience of English football prior to being appointed.

Cellino is now on his fourth manager in Neil Redfearn, having parted ways with Brian McDermott, David Hockaday and Milanic in less than a year as Leeds owner.

Gray does not believe Milanic was at Leeds long enough to have a chance to make his mark, but the club legend has nevertheless defended Cellino's rapid-fire managerial change penchant.

"Not really [six games isn’t long enough to judge him]. But we know how the football club is going to work", Gray explained to LUTV.

"I think you've got to understand where the president is coming from. I think he's very passionate and he finds defeat hard to stomach.

"It's enough for the president. He judged him in the six games and he runs the football club."

Gray also believes that Cellino quickly parts with managers following poor results because he feels a responsibility to the club's fans.

"I think he feels personally that he's letting the fans down. He tried to rectify things right away. It might not be the right way to go about it, we'll see in the long term", he added.
