Mauricio Pochettino insists he understands the importance of Harry Kane to the Tottenham Hotspur fans, but will not be pushed into throwing the striker into regular first team action.

Kane, a product of Spurs' youth academy, has been in fine form this term when handed the chance by Pochettino, especially in the Europa League.

Calls are now growing for Kane to be fielded in Premier League matches by Pochettino. But the Argentine will not easily bend and has vowed to do things his way.

"Today if we were in Argentina and he was Argetinian player and playing with two foreign strikers, it would always be a sensitive situation", the former Espanyol coach was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I understand because he is an English player. He scored the last game against Brighton and Asteras and I understand he is a special player for our supporters", Pochettino continued.

"My decision is always about my analysis on the training and after to give the balance to the team and our performance. Not only focus on different situations … but I understand and I know that this is a special player for our supporters."
