Benfica have jumped into the race for Arsenal forward Joel Campbell, but expect strong opposition from Galatasaray for the player's signature.

Campbell spent last term on loan with Olympiacos in Greece, helping the club to the Super League title, while he then shone at the World Cup with surprise package Costa Rica.

The forward had been hoping for regular first team football at Arsenal this term, but has found his playing time severely restricted.

Campbell is now attracting serious interest ahead of the January transfer window.

Both AC Milan and Inter are interested in loaning the starlet.

However, both Benfica and Galatasaray are determined to move for Campbell, according to Portuguese daily A Bola.

It remains to be seen whether Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will allow Campbell to leave the Emirates Stadium, either permanently or on loan.
