Inter have confirmed the appointment of former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini as their new coach.

The Italian giants sacked Walter Mazzarri earlier today amidst a poor start to the new season in Serie A, which sees the club well off a Champions League qualification spot in ninth.

And Inter have turned to Mancini, who was most recently employed at Galatasaray in Turkey.

Inter announced: "F.C. Internazionale is pleased to announce that Roberto Mancini is the new first-team head coach. He will begin coaching duties tomorrow."

For Mancini it is a return to a former club, with the 49-year-old having bossed Inter from 2004 until 2008.

He led the Nerazzurri to three Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias and two Supercoppa Italianas.

However, Mancini found himself out of a job following his failure to make an impression on the European stage with Inter.

Now he will aim to lead the club back into the Champions League.
