Former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat has resigned as coach of the Serbian national team.

Serbia slipped to a 3-1 defeat to Denmark at home last night and the result has proven to be the final straw for the Dutchman.

The result left Serbia sitting second bottom of Group I in Euro 2016 qualifying with just one point from three games.

And Advocaat now believes he cannot guide Serbia to Euro 2016 in France.

"When I started here in July, I thought we had a good chance of qualifying for the European Championship", he said in a statement.

"But now I must be honest with the people of Serbia and to myself", he added.

Serbia Under-21 coach Radovan Curcic has stepped up as caretaker following Advocaat's departure.
