Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola appears to have fired the starting gun on the transfer scramble for Xherdan Shaqiri after dismissing the Swiss as "not intelligent" enough to play for the German champions.

Shaqiri was wanted by a number of clubs in the summer, including Liverpool and Juventus, but Bayern Munich made clear the winger would not be sold.

Shaqiri continues to be unhappy with the amount of playing time he is receiving at the Allianz Arena – and this winter Guardiola will not stand in his way.

According to German daily Bild, the former Barcelona coach has concluded that Shaqiri is not intelligent enough to adapt to his demands at the Allianz Arena.

The news will be hungrily gobbled up by Shaqiri's suitors.
