Former Manchester United manager David Moyes was interested in relaunching his career in the Netherlands, it has been revealed.

Moyes, who did not even last a year as Manchester United manager after being sacked in April this year, recently took over as the new coach of La Liga side Real Sociedad.

However, before taking up the challenge in Spain, Moyes had been looking towards the Dutch Eredivisie, former NEC, Willem II and Go Ahead Eagles boss Jim Calderwood, a close friend of the Scot, has revealed.

Indeed, Moyes enlisted the help of his brother, Kenny, to scout for opportunities with Calderwood.

"When his brother asked for options in the Netherlands, I was not that surprised", Calderwood told Voetbal International.

"Going from the Premier League to the Eredivisie sounds odd, but David's focus was on the experience. He wanted to test himself in a different environment.

"In the Netherlands it was natural to him that he should be testing himself at a club that could play in the Champions League.

"And David wanted, besides the sporting aspect, to further develop as a man, with a different language and a different world view."
