Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Miranda has suffered a grade two injury to his hamstring.

The defender, who has been strongly linked with being a target for Manchester United in January, picked up the injury during Brazil’s 2-1 win over Austria in a friendly on Tuesday, and had to be substituted in the 28th minute of the contest.

And tests later revealed the severity of the injury, with Miranda being advised to rest for a week by the club’s medical staff.

"Grade II muscle injury to the hamstring [distal third] on the back of his left thigh”, a statement on Atletico Madrid’s official site read.

“This injury requires physical therapy and rest from sport activities until next week, when he can start an alternative training. He's pending evolution."
